Feds: Brockton man behind cellphone hacking, crypto stealing scheme – News – The Enterpr…

A 21-year-old Brockton man is accused by federal prosecutors of being one of two ringleaders in a hacking conspiracy that targeted and threatened people with high profile social media accounts and others, including executives from cryptocurrency companies.

BROCKTON – In one example from a 21-page indictment, revealed last week in federal court, the young computer hacker from Brockton is accused of making threats over the phone that he would kill the wife of a Michigan man, while demanding that the victim turn over his “OG account” Instagram handle.

Adding weight to the threat, the 21-year-old Brockton hacker revealed in text messages that he knew the victim’s address, and the address of the victim’s mother, according to the indictment. The Brockton hacker is accused by federal authorities of personally calling the Michigan man’s wife, threatening to kill her, while using a phone number that belonged to her husband.
