Bitcoin has outpaced every mainstream asset class over one and three years

Bitcoin has outpaced every mainstream asset class over one and three years

Bitcoin has risen more than thirtyfold in the past five years, well outpacing every mainstream investment asset class in that time, research from investment platform interactive investor shows.

The cryptocurrency’s stunning run has seen it rise 3,233% in the five years to 31 October, compared to developed market equities, which were the next best performer, at just 78%.

Bitcoin has also outpaced every mainstream asset class over one and three years, as well as year-to-date with returns of 44%, 1,388% and 136% respectively. All four of those performance figures are more than twice the return of the next best performing asset, as the table below shows.

Gary McFarlane, cryptocurrency analyst at interactive investor, said Bitcoin had been the best-performing asset in recent years “because none of the problems that led to the financial crisis have been successfully addressed”.
