Protect Our Pensioners: OAP conned out of thousands in cruel Bitcoin scam

A Paisley pensioner lost tens of thousands of pounds to crooks after getting caught up in a cruel Bitcoin scam.

The 68-year-old believed he was investing a five-figure sum of cash in the digital currency, but he was actually lining the pockets of criminal gangs.

Police are investigating the devastating fraud and warned Express readers that if a deal appears too good to be true, then it probably is.

The OAP believed he was turning a huge profit after the scamster sent him official-looking documents and charts showing how much money he was making.

Over the course of a year, he sent more and more money to the con artists after responding to an email before finally realising he had been duped when the website disappeared.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley’s community policing team, has urged people to be aware of email scams and always seek advice from the authorities before handing over money.
