PRESIDENTIAL hopeful Gavin Duffy has been dragged into a Bitcoin scam after his identity was used in a fake online ad without his permission.

Duffy’s photo and name feature in a bogus article about a fictitious Irish cryptocurrency firm that “landed the biggest investment ever made in Dragon’s Den history.”

The article tells how two Dublin university students appeared on the RTE show to pitch an “automated bitcoin trading platform called Bitcoin Revolution”.

The scam ad, posted online earlier this week, claims Mr Duffy offered to invest €30million in the project and sparked a bidding war between the other Dragons — all of which never happened.

The article appears on a scam website made to look like the national broadcaster’s website.
