Police officers will be trained in cryptocurrencies to boost the battle against money laundering.

Sources said the City of London Police is piloting a course for fraud investigators to be rolled out as soon as this autumn, amid warnings that billions of pounds of dirty money are washing through Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

The move follows calls from police officers for help in getting to grips with the technology, and it comes after it was announced that a state-of-the-art “cyber court” will open in London’s financial district in 2025.
