Parents of teen Instagram hacker spared jail for transferring stolen Bitcoin

The parents of a teenage hacker who virtually broke into TalkTalk and sold personal data for crypto-currency have been spared jail.

Elliott Gunton was jailed for 20 months in August for selling mobile phone numbers and access to high profile Instagram accounts to criminals.

The 19-year-old amassed a small fortune by advertising his services in exchange for £2,469 in Bitcoin.

Jason Gunton, 45, and his former wife Carlie, 44, were shown mercy by a judge after they he accepted that they were only trying to help their son Elliott and did not intend to profit from themselves.

Gunton, who was convicted of hacking TalkTalk when he was 16, was ordered to pay back £407,359 when he was found guilty of hacking offences and money laundering this summer.

Last month his mum Carlie, 44, and dad Jason, 45, pleaded guilty to transferring criminal property at Norwich Crown Court.
