LIMA — Area police agencies warned about a scam going around involving ransoms for Bitcoin and bomb threats.

The Lima Police Department reported to a threat at Mid-American Cleaning Contractors, 447 N. Elizabeth St., after the business received a bomb threat related to this nationwide scam, according to the LPD’s Facebook page.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Office reported it’s also aware of the scam. It recommended anyone receiving this type of online threat to use reasonable caution and to contact local law enforcement agencies.

Both agencies said they’ll take all threats against businesses and residents seriously, but they wanted to inform the public it is part of a nationwide scam affecting multiple communities throughout the country, with federal and local agencies working together to resolve the baseless threats.
