NAB investigating after Mike Baird exploited in ‘fake news’ Facebook scam

National Australia Bank (NAB) is investigating after learning former NSW premier Mike Baird, who is one of its executives, and Waleed Aly are being exploited in a “fake news” scam online.

Key points:

  • The ads appear to be part of a “pump and dump” scam
  • Facebook has removed several of the posts but dozens remain
  • The ABC has tracked the fraud’s origin to an account in Italy

The ABC has identified hundreds of Facebook advertisements which use Mr Baird’s image and fabricated quotes to plug a “wealth loophole” advising investors to buy bitcoin.
