Michigan Man Makes Court Appearance In Cryptocurrency Theft Case

A Michigan man made an appearance in federal court in San Francisco on Thursday in connection with federal hacking charges.

Anthony Tyler Nashatka, appeared on charges of conspiracy to commit computer fraud and abuse, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and on other charges related to a scheme to defraud victims of at least $1.4 million in cryptocurrency in December of 2017.

Nashatka, dubbed “psycho”, and co-conspirators targeted a cyrptocurrency exchange platform to obtain private keys and other information of hundreds of users.

On Dec. 20 and Dec. 21 of 2017, Nashatka and the co-conspirators logged the credentials of hundreds of victims and transferred approximately $600,000 in cryptocurrency to an address controlled by the suspects.

The suspects also stole an additional $800,000 from a single victim on Dec. 26, 2017….
