  • Virgil Griffith, the US cryptocurrency expert arrested last week on suspicion of helping North Korea evade US sanctions, reportedly said it’d be “really cool” if North Korea mined ether.
  • Ether is a cryptocurrency developed by the Ethereum Foundation, a nonprofit cryptocurrency platform which Griffith also works for.
  • Griffith reportedly also told fellow crypto experts in April that he intended to arrange the delivery of equipment into North Korea to create ether.
  • Griffith has since been released from prison and is awaiting trial. His lawyer described the allegations against him as “untested.”
