PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Common Council left out one detail in the cryptocurrency-mining law it passed.
Local Law P-7 of 2018: Providing Zoning Regulations for Commercial Cryptocurrency Mining Operations in the City of Plattsburgh does not entirely address the matter of noise.
The Common Council, said Mayor Colin Read, “decided to consider a new local law on noise and decided to not lift the cryptocurrency moratorium until a new noise law is in place.
“We will continue to work on the last piece of the puzzle.”
The new law, approved unanimously by the council after last Thursday’s public hearing, is for any new high density load cryptocurrency operators that set up in the city.
Existing ones are grandfathered in, so it does not apply to them — unless they expand, Read said.
