In a news release on Wednesday, Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator warns citizens of Bitcoin Blackmail scams which have reportedly increased, even in Caddo Parish.

“Emails sent to Caddo Parish residents say the sender has hacked into their computer and recorded them visiting adult websites. They threaten to distribute the video to friends and family within hours, unless you pay into their Bitcoin account,” the news release read.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has seen an increase in reports of the Bitcoin blackmail scams. 

Anyone who receives such an email is encouraged to delete the email immediately, “because it’s only a scam,” the news release read.
