Another scam is making the rounds in Strathcona County and RCMP are issuing a warning so you don’t get duped.

Investigators said a resident received a call last month from a man claiming to be an employee of Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and told the resident their Social Insurance Number had been stolen.

Local RCMP said the man claimed someone opened an account using the resident’s SIN and racked up a large debt on her credit card.

The scammer then told the resident she must safeguard the money she currently has in her bank accounts and told her to deposit a large amount of money into a Bitcoin machine in Edmonton.

Mounties underlined no government agency or organization would request money or you to pay fines through a Bitcoin machine.
