CLEVELAND, Ohio — For the first time in North America, you can buy a Mercedes-Benz or Porsche with Bitcoin. 

Bernie Moreno dealerships, mainly in Ohio, will accept types of cryptocurrency, including Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin.

Now customers can pay for their luxury cars through smartphones. 

“This is a full leap into the future,” Moreno said in a news release. “Bitcoin has showed the world the power of blockchain technology. It’s now Cleveland’s turn to show the world how blockchain can be used to revolutionize the world.”

Moreno is the leader of Cleveland’s “Blockland” initiative, which is drawing hundreds of volunteers and civic leaders aiming to make the region an epicenter for blockchain technology.

Blockchain is an online, distributed ledger system. It’s the technology that makes cryptocurrency work.
