An internet-based medium for exchanging currency, cryptocurrency scams are targeted by the Better Business Bureau as being the second-riskiest scam of 2019.

The BBB reports employment scams remained in the top spot as the riskiest scams for the second year in a row. Cryptocurrency, however, was gaining ground because victims lost more money than many other scams.

Customers who lost money in a cryptocurrency scam lost a median of $3,000.

BBB ranks riskiness of scams through an algorithm that looks at monetary loss, exposure and susceptibility.
